The pandemic turned my world upside down, as it did for many. I was a content cosmetologist until the lockdown made me rethink my career path. With unexpected downtime, I rediscovered my passion for baking and photography. This revelation led me to a new journey, blending my interests perfectly. In 2021, I launched Austin Claire Photography LLC, focusing on honing my skills in photography, videography, and recipe creation. This transformative experience inspired me to start my blog, Now From Scratch, as a natural extension of this new path. It's a space where I share my journey, combining my love for visual storytelling and culinary arts, and connecting with others who are navigating their own transitions and rediscovering their passions.
I'm originally from Wyoming, a place where traditions hold strong and life is refreshingly simple. Being a bit behind the times here actually feels like a blessing, offering a unique perspective and a slower pace of life that's hard to find elsewhere.
Growing up, my grandparents were all about gardening, canning, quilting, cooking, and baking. Family recipes got passed down through generations, and gathering for dinner every night was just part of our routine.
The name Now From Scratch pays tribute to my roots. Sure, grabbing something pre-made off a shelf is an option (and hey, I still do it sometimes), but there's a special joy and fulfillment in crafting something from the ground up and learning to make it from scratch.
At Now From Scratch, I'm all about making food and flavors the old-school way. I love slow food, like making sourdough, canning, crafting small-batch wines, and cooking with what's local and in season. I want to keep family recipes alive, while also exploring the flavors of different cuisines. For me, it's about enjoying the slow life and the deep connections food brings. I'm here to champion great food, celebrate cooking traditions, and hopefully create real moments around the table.
