Springtime = strawberry season and Clarksville has some awesome u-pick fields full of delicious strawberries! Perfect for making this Strawberry Blood Orange Fizz!
Unfortunately, due to the extremely volatile nature of spring this year, we’re all still waiting for those amazing fields of strawberries to ripen lol. So I had to get store-bought berries for this recipe. Still delicious, but there’s nothing quite like the taste of sun-ripened real strawberries. I’m dreaming of warmer days and sitting out in the backyard in the sunshine! We woke up this morning to 33 degrees and only a high of 52. Currently, I have three tomato pots sitting inside on the rug by my front door, and the garden beds are covered in fitted sheets. Oh, Spring how you tease us so…
I’m hoping to coax the warmer weather out of hiding with this summertime drink! Blood oranges are just gorgeous pieces of fruit, and this Strawberry & Blood Orange Fizz cocktail is made with homemade strawberry & blood orange simple syrup!
The recipe is simple, quick, and perfect for patio drinking should we ever get to summer!
Simple syrups are quite simple.
They are just water, sugar, and whatever flavor you desire!
For the Strawberry & Blood Orange Fizz’s simple syrup, you’ll need a pint of strawberries, 1 blood orange, 1 regular orange, 1 cup of water, and 1 cup of sugar.
Combine the water, sugar, juice from both of the oranges, and cut up strawberries in a saucepan. Place it on your stovetop and bring it to a boil.
Once it starts boiling, a bunch of foam will be floating around the top. Try to scoop off as much of this as you can. It will help the syrup to be a gorgeous color that’s more clear at the end. After this, reduce the heat and let the syrup simmer for 10-15 minutes. The syrup will reduce down a little and thicken some over this time. It’s not going to seem thick because of how hot it is. So don’t worry if after 15 minutes it still seems watery and runny.
Once the 15 minutes are up, pour everything through a mesh strainer into a bowl.
Don’t squish the strawberries to get the extra liquid out of them. Pressing them will make the syrup cloudy. Just let it drain through and then throw them out. Or if you have chickens, toss them to your hens! Mine were so excited for the sweet treat!
Let the syrup fully cool before using it to make the Strawberry & Blood Orange Fizz.
After it was cool enough, I poured mine into a plastic carafe with a lid to keep in the fridge. It can be kept in the fridge and used for up to a month!
Now to make the Strawberry & Blood Orange Fizz!
Fill a bar glass of your choosing with ice. Side note: I’ve been seeing pictures on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest of these gorgeous drink photos with beautiful glassware.
In these pictures, the light fractionates through the patterned glass causing the most beautiful colors, and reflections! It’s something I’ve been wanting to try myself for a minute now. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on glassware though… Secret time… the glasses in these pictures are plastic! I got them At Home for $2.99 a piece. Here is a set of 6 that are similarly designed – fancy plastic glasses are a must for summer patio drinking!
Then you can drink outside without fear of breaking them too! Anyway, back to making the drink! Start with ice, then add 1 1/2 shots of the homemade simple syrup, a shot of Strawberry Absolut, a splash of lemon juice, and top the rest off with a strawberry Perrier!
Of course, you should also garnish your Strawberry & Blood Orange Fizz with a slice of blood orange!
Not gonna lie, equal amounts of fun were had taking the pictures for this post as drinking the drink for this post!
Let me know if you make this! I hope you love it and I hope we all find a patch of summer sunshine to sit out and enjoy it soon enough! ☀️❤️☀️

1shot Strawberry Absolut Juice Vodka

1Blood Orange sliced
Instructions
Strawberry & Blood Orange Simple Syrup
In a small saucepan combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and stir together.
Cut both the blood orange and regular orange into quarters and squeeze all the juice from both into the saucepan.
Cut the stems off of the strawberries and then cut them in half or quarters if they are big. Put all of the strawberries in the saucepan as well.
Place the pan on the stove and bring to a boil stirring occasionally. As the liquid begins to boil, a foam will form on top. Scoop as much of this foam off as possible and discard. After the syrup has come to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Once the 15 minutes is up, pour all the liquid through a mesh strainer and into a bowl. Do not press any liquid out of the strawberry pieces as this will cause a cloudy syrup. Discard remaining strawberries and wait for the syrup to cool.
Strawberry & Blood Orange Fizz
Once the simple syrup is cool, in a small bar glass filled with ice, pour in 1 1/2 shot glasses full of the syrup. Next, pour in a shot of Strawberry Absolut Vodka, a splash of lemon juice, and fill the rest of the glass up with Strawberry Perrier. Garnish with a beautiful slice of blood orange either on the side or in the glass. Give the drink a quick stir and find a nice spot of sunshine to sit in & sip & enjoy!
