Ingredients

For the Cranberry Ginger Syrup

  • 1 cup fresh cranberries or 1/2 cup cranberry juice, if preferred
  • 2 tbsp fresh ginger sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup honey or agave syrup adjust to taste

For the Cocktail (per drink):

  • 2 oz tequila preferably blanco
  • 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz Cranberry Ginger Syrup from above
  • Sparkling water grapefruit-flavored, if possible
  • Ice cubes

Optional for Rimming:

  • Salt or sugar
  • Grapefruit or lime wedge

Garnish:

  • Fresh cranberries
  • Grapefruit slice
  • Small sprig of rosemary or thyme

Instructions

Make the Cranberry Ginger Syrup:

  • Combine cranberries, ginger, water, and honey in a small saucepan.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the mixture thickens slightly (8–10 minutes).
  • Strain through a fine mesh sieve, pressing the solids to extract all the liquid.
  • Let the syrup cool completely for about 20-30 minutes in the fridge. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Rim the Glass (Optional):

  • Rub the rim of a glass with a grapefruit or lime wedge.
  • Dip the rim into salt or sugar for a decorative touch.

Mix the Cocktail:

  • Fill the prepared glass with ice cubes.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and 1 oz of the chilled Cranberry Ginger Syrup.
  • Shake well until fully combined.
  • Top with Sparkling Water:
  • Pour the shaken mixture over the ice in the glass.
  • Top with sparkling water to taste. Stir gently to combine.

Garnish:

  • Add fresh cranberries, a grapefruit slice, and a small sprig of rosemary or thyme.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!
